Wardriving

Above: Setting up the rig on the balcony to acquire a steady GPS signal. The construction of the building made it difficult to hold a signal during setup.

A Constant Work in Progress

This is one of those projects that has occupied my workbench for far too long. I originally wanted to present this at the monthly radio club meeting that I attend.

Early in my IT career I came across wardriving during my study for CompTIA's Security+ certification. I was immediately interested in what I would consider is both a dying and old school hobby. Wardriving is only illegal when you cross into the black-hat territory of network compromise, DoS, etc.

A fun way to try the hobby out, and to see what is around you is to download WiGLE Wi-Fi to your phone and turn the scanning feature on.
